Frequently Asked Questions

Why the extra focus on breath and mobility for ashtanga?

Our ashtanga practice, through its repetitive nature, is a full-on moving meditation. There's a funny line from Pattabhi Jois: "Ashtanga Yoga is a breathing practice. The rest is just bending."

The first week we'll dive deeper into the kind of breath (and even bandhas) that we want to keep our attention towards.

But then what happens when our tight bodies get in the way of all the "bending"? Well, the breathing gets harder... or stops completely. And forget accessing flow state when you're fighting for your life in a backbend.

Hence the mobility classes. Can we start to get these sticky or "problematic" parts of the body out of the way, so that we can practice with more confidence and more ease.

Should I sign up for the "premium" or the "basic" membership?

Depends what you are looking for.

The premium membership gives you access to the live classes and the community. It's $54.99 a month (which, if you were to take ~4 classes a week at your local studio, that'd be $320 a month).

The basic membership is $29.99 a month and only gives you access to the pre-recorded classes (which there are quite a few of and you can absolutely still do the challenge with).

Can I still do the challenge if I can't make the live classes?

YES! There are pre-recorded led classes for you to follow along with at your own convenience.

There are also weekly breath and mobility classes assigned to the calendar that are pre-recorded only.

Are there any classes to kick us off on January 1?

Yes. Marla and Justin will be doing a Guided Meditation and Vision Setting for 2026 on January 1, 2026 at 10:00 am EST over zoom.

Click here to sign up ahead of time.

If you cannot attend live, the class will be recorded and uploaded.

When should I sign up by?

Sign up before January 1 to come to our kick-off class!

What if I am brand new to ashtanga?

Then this is your time to get started.

Follow this Standing Sequence class as your "mysore" practice in the beginning, and watch the individual pose tutorials to learn how to properly do the postures.

Can I preview the calendar?

Yup, check it out here.
